extended to all of Japan. In June of 1995 the Earthquake Countermeasures Special Law was enacted and the provision of earthquake countermeasures facilities progressed still further.
3. Role and Effectiveness of Grant System
The aim of the Large Scale Earthquake Countermeasures Grant is to respond to post-earthquake fires and establish a disaster prevention system together with the community. The types of grants are as follows:
・Earthquake-resistant reservoirs and portable water pumps (in order to achieve quick extinguishment of fire and to ensure the safety of evacuation sites by Citizen Disaster Prevention Organizations)
・Electric-power supply vehicles and Earthquake Rescue Vehicle (in order to direct the flow of traffic of evacuees)
・Emergency Supply Storage and Rescue Site Equipment (in order to establish an immediate rescue system)
・Disaster Prevention Education Vehicles and Earthquake Simulation Vehicles (in order to teach awareness of disaster prevention)
・Information Management Vehicle (in order to efficiently collect and distribute information about earthquake damage)
・Post-Earthquake Demolition Vehicles (in order to clear obstructions from streets and make way for fire engines)
